The Careers Education and PSHCE programmes in the Pangbourne Senior School aim to equip students with the skills they need to make the successful transition from the Fifth Form to the Sixth Form.
The Careers programme aims to help students develop the skills and confidence to make realistic and informed decisions about their futures, for themselves, and to manage the transitions from one stage of their education, training and work to the next.
Students are encouraged to carry out their own research using the resources available to them but also under the guidance of one of the Head of Careers, tutors, the Head of PSHCE, the Head of Sixth Form and Housemasters/mistresses. There is a programme called Kudos Inspire to help in this process.
Students complete a personality profile linked to brain-mapping in the first term. This is followed up by an individual guidance interview with a specialist careers adviser. The profiles are used as a basis for important student-tutor discussions in relation to individual study and career options.
Whilst Pangbournians are encouraged to stay on into the Sixth Form, alternative routes can be discussed for those in Form 5 who would benefit from a more vocational and less academic regime.
