Following the success of the U16 Girls’ Hockey Team earlier this term, Hockey at Pangbourne continues to thrive as the U14 Girls’ Squad earn themselves a coveted spot at the Regional Championships.
Winning matches against both Bradfield College and Claires Court Schools in the County stages, Mr Terry Waldon, Coach of the U14 Girls’ Squad, said: “I am incredibly proud that such a small group of girls can compete at County and get through to Regionals against much larger schools with bigger squads and a wider choice of players to choose from.”
The annual Prep Schools’ Seven-A-Side Girls’ Hockey tournament was also held this term, with matches hosted at both the College and at St Andrew’s School. The largest tournament the College has held so far, 24 teams participated and over 130 people were served match teas in the Mess Hall.
Head of Hockey Mr Dan Paynter described the ‘great atmosphere and nice vibe’ of the tournament and gave thanks to St Andrew’s School for their ongoing support and use of facilities.
He said: “With our success at regional level with the U16 and U14 teams Hockey is building at Pangbourne. Having girls coming in and playing hockey here will hopefully encourage more girls to come to the College. Hockey is a major girls’ sport and we want more good sportspeople coming through to continue to bring the level up.”
