Pangbourne College Psychology department was delighted to welcome local Psychotherapist to speak to students earlier this term. Head of Psychology Miss Letitia Rizan reports:
As Head of Psychology a really important aspect of my role involves inspiring the pupils to think beyond the classroom and explore job roles or topics they had perhaps not even considered before. With this in mind I invited Lisa Bruton, a Psychotherapist, to talk to both A-Level Psychology students and those in Form 5 interested in taking the subject next year.
She began by telling us how she was first inspired to take a Psychotherapy masters , which was preceded by a degree in Anthropology. It was moving to then hear Lisa's accounts of her experience working with the Met police. She has been using her counselling and psychotherapy knowledge to help officers that need help with traumas they experience on the job.
A fascinating and very touching talk, the pupils were thoroughly engaged with many questions for Lisa. Afterwards, one A-Level pupil said, 'I really enjoyed the talk. Even though I am doing Sports Psychology at University next year, this has broadened my mind to the opportunities that can arise from Psychology.'
I would be privileged to hear Lisa talk again so I hope to invite her back to talk at Pangbourne in the future.
