A Day in the Life of a Boarder

More than half of the pupils here at the College choose to board - there are around 240 boarders and 180 day pupils.

All pupils follow a daily routine - as shown in the table below - which alongside lessons, includes various activities and co-curricular programmes.

Lesson 5 always ends at 2.55pm - there is no difference for Summer or Winter routines. The afternoon is split into a shorter section of Enrichment and a longer period of Games and Activities.  In the Summer the Enrichment precedes the Games and Activities, in the Winter this is reversed.

On Wednesdays, students have just four lessons before playing games or sports fixtures against other schools between 2.30-4pm while, on Saturdays, students have three lessons before lunch and a whole school sports fixture list. There are no afternoon lessons on Wednesdays or Saturdays.

On Saturdays, Boarders have a half-day of lessons and there are various events in the evenings including College discos, cinema visits, competitions, barbecues and visits to sporting fixtures.

Brunch is served at 10.30am on Sundays to allow pupils a chance to recoup their energy before going on a trip. Trips include visits to Oxford, Reading, Basingstoke, the London Eye, Olympic Park, the Tate Modern and The Race Hut in Slough, while other trips have taken the form of Christmas shopping, cultural days out in Oxford, punting and trampolining.

Full boarders stay at Pangbourne for the entirety of the term, except for holiday periods and leave weekends (exeats – early finish on a Friday at 4pm with no school on Saturday or Sunday) which take place, on average, twice a term.

There is an option for Part-boarding, which means pupils spends four nights a week at the College - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights.
