Hesperus

Hesperus Division is located at the far end of the Parade Ground, opposite Macquarie, overlooking the acres of beautiful grounds at the College.

Hesperus’s mascot is Elvis the Elk, the Division’s colour is Maroon and its emblem is the Hesperus ship. Hesperus’s House Values are Effort, Family, Manners and Responsibility.

Hesperus has one Common Room which encourages great interaction between the year groups and adds to the sociable atmosphere of the Division. There is a pool table, computers, Sky TV, table tennis, table football, board games and a House library and among the evening activities in the Division are House politics evenings, games nights, film nights and sports competitions, with the table tennis competition the most popular.

Hesperus is named after one of the clipper ships belonging to the Devitt and Moore shipping company that first set up Pangbourne as a Nautical training college in 1917 before it took the name Pangbourne College and then later became a co-educational school.

More on Hesperus

What are the 'Herds'?

The house is split into groups we call Herds after our mascot Elvis the Elk. These groups compete against each other throughout the term. Points are awarded for gaining merits for good academic work, cabin tidiness, helpfulness around the division and acts of kindness. The winning Herd each term is treated to a trip to a restaurant for a meal together.

Opportunities for The Boys

Pupils get on well with one another which creates a great atmosphere in the Division and each year there is a Hesperus trip. Happiness is at the core of our beliefs in Hesperus and if our pupils are happy they will achieve their best in whatever they do.

Life in the Division and the variety of Divisional events helps to encourage a wide range of interests in the boys. All the evening events are organised by the students, allowing them to build up their leadership skills and the Division prides itself on its friendly environment and great atmosphere.
