Tennis is a major sport for girls and a minor sport for boys in the Summer term.
For the girls, there is a 1st VI and a 2nd VI at senior level, five U15 and U14 pairs, and four Dunbar (Forms 1 and 2) pairs who all take part in a full fixture card, testing themselves against the likes of Bradfield College, St Mary’s Ascot, Lord Wandsworth, Queen Anne’s and St Edward’s Oxford.
Girls’ tennis has improved year by year and the Tennis Club has been bolstered thanks to the help of some very experienced coaches, including Mr Charlie Hunt, who is an LTA professional and offers all-year-round lessons for both boys and girls as an individual or in pairs.
The boys’ programme continues to develop and currently there is a 1st VI and a 2nd VI while, on occasion, students compete in mixed doubles matches.
There are usually opportunities for between 10-20 students to go to Wimbledon every year.
Pangbourne has nine astro courts and five outdoor courts – three of which have been relaid – on which to play tennis.
Girls who have all-rounded sporting talent are able to play tennis, swim and take part in athletics in the Summer term and students can choose tennis as one of their activities on a Thursday should they wish.
