Netball is a major sport for girls in the Lent term and is played four times a week with matches on a Wednesday and Saturday.
The Netball Club aims to provide a competitive fixture card to stretch the best players, as well as an inclusive programme designed to cater for girls of all different abilities.
Early on in the term, the coaches look to develop the girls’ core skills before moving on to developing tactical decision-making and set-plays and the sport is seen as a good transition from hockey with the emphasis being on passing and moving.
There are four senior teams, an A and B team at U14 and U15 level and Dunbar (Forms 1 and 2) has an A, B and C team. All teams have a full fixture card and play the likes of Bradfield College, Lord Wandsworth, Downe House, St Mary’s Ascot and St Edward’s Oxford.
The 1st team also gets invited to play at invitational tournaments.
Pangbourne has three new, relayed hard courts, two outdoor junior courts and one indoor court in the Sports Hall in which to play.
Girls are encouraged to play for local clubs and some go on to play the sport at county level.
The Netball Club arrange visits to watch Surrey Storm in the Netball Superleague to foster a love of the game and there are a range of enthusiastic coaches who provide a range of enjoyable and testing training sessions in the lead-up to matches.
