Design & Technology
Design Technology is a well resourced and thriving environment with students able to use the facilities regularly throughout the school day. The department contains a large number of timber, metal and plastic-based machinery, well maintained by our resident technician.
Exam year groups have regular and unlimited access to specialist type materials including moulding and casting facilities, laser printer and 3D printing services. Students are encouraged to be autonomous with their projects, independently managing time using their free lesson slots and enrichment periods. Many of our pupils go on to pursue careers in design and other creative ventures.
We have enjoyed many design-based trips in the past, giving students the opportunity to see problem-solving in real life scenarios. Popular trips have included visits to the ‘Clerkenwell Design Week’, The Design Museum and back stage access to Land rover, Morgan and Mini.
Clubs and competitions are ever-evolving in Design Technology. Popular and successful examples include the classic car club, where students contribute to the restoration of a ‘Bond Equipe’, furniture upcycling challenges and contributions to create costumes for the Pangbourne College production.
