The U15 girls' delivered a brilliant performance at the YOU HQ 5-a-side tournament on Friday 13 June, finishing second in their pool after a strong group stage that saw them record 3 wins, 2 draws, and just 1 loss.
Their efforts earned them a spot in the Cup quarter-finals, where they narrowly missed out on progressing further after a tightly contested match. Undeterred by the setback, the girls showed real grit and determination as they refocused and pushed on in the Plate competition.
In the final, they faced familiar opponents in St Joseph’s – a team they had already beaten 2-0 in the group stage. Fatigue and soaring temperatures throughout the day made this rematch a greater challenge, with limited rest breaks testing their endurance. Despite this, the girls battled hard, applied constant pressure, and challenged the St Joseph goalkeeper right up to the final whistle. The match ended 0-0, taking the game to a nail-biting penalty shootout.
Yella was outstanding in goal, saving St Joseph’s first two penalties with nerves of steel. Laurel and Harriet stepped up confidently to slot home theirs, sealing a dramatic victory and crowning the U15s as Plate Champions.
It was a fantastic display of teamwork, resilience, and determination from the whole squad. Well done to all the girls: Annie, Chloe, Relly, Laurel, Lilia, Harriet, Laila and Yella.
