Our Lower Sixth students enjoyed a once in a lifetime trip to Uganda over the Summer. This trip gives our students an opportunity to gain new skills, experience new cultures and perspectives, observe the challenges faced by many communities while creating lasting bonds and memories. Our students got up to so much during their trip from white water rafting to helping build a school.
Take a read at what some of our students had to say about their experiences.
‘My trip to Uganda in July was a real eye-opener and broadened my understanding of how people live in different parts of the world. I got to experience a completely different culture, meet new people, and take part in thrilling activities. The highlights for me were white water rafting on the River Nile, going on safari, and helping out in lessons with the kids at the local school in Nabugabo. It’s a trip I’ll always remember, and I think it’s had a really positive impact on how I see the world, and I’m really grateful that I had this experience.’ - Margot
‘Myself, among twelve other Pangbourne students, were lucky enough to go on this year's trip to Uganda - and what a trip it was! I loved every minute of it, from being in the school with the children to rounding the trip off with white water rafting on the Nile! I really enjoyed our time at Nabugabo Community Learning Centre, learning and playing with all the children. They were all so much fun and full of smiles as well as being very skilful on the pitch! My favourite times were Monday and Friday’s morning hour of sport, whether that be volleyball or drum or dance! It was all an incredible experience and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.’ - Faith
‘My trip to Uganda was an incredible and unforgettable experience. The highlight for me was working in the school with the girls in P2, whose energy and enthusiasm made each day so enjoyable. Spending time with Sasha, Joyce, and Christine was particularly memorable, and learning Ugandan with them, teaching phonics, and taking part in sports day were truly special moments. I also valued the opportunity to bond with the Pangbourne girls on the trip, forming strong friendships that I believe will last for a lifetime.’ - Amelia
‘My experience in Uganda was a life long, memorable one that I won’t forget. From the beautiful safari to getting to meet all of the lovely school children, it has certainly made an impact on me as a person. Many people don’t get the chance to visit Africa in their lifetime, however, I feel like it has helped me understand how a different culture lives, from the food they eat and their sleeping arrangements. When we were saying our goodbyes, the school children gave us letters which certainly made it hard to leave.’ - Charlie
